Unfortunately, many of us don\u2019t have a free day or weekend to get involved in a big charitable event, but perhaps we could spare an hour or two? That is where Microvolunteering steps in!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">April 15th is known as <\/span><b>International Microvolunteering Day<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; a day that recognises how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Microvolunteering is a unique opportunity to encourage individuals like yourself to get involved in charitable acts in a small, yet meaningful way. The term \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microvolunteering<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d first became popular in 2008 and has flourished ever since. However, while the term microvolunteering is relatively new, the concept isn\u2019t.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microvolunteering has had various titles over the years, such as byte-sized volunteering, speed volunteering, micro-actions, and virtual volunteering. While the name may have changed, the intention has remained the same. International Microvolunteering Day aims to raise awareness and encourage people to help out however they can.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>So how can you get involved?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On International Microvolunteering Day, one of the best things you can do is engage in bite-sized tasks that help and inform others &#8211; and you can do it wherever you are. You can do it from the comfort of your own home, on holiday, an office, the sofa\u2026.basically, anywhere you have WIFI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what activities can you do to get involved with microvolunteering? Many charities look for people who can help with:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Citizen science.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Email writing &amp; responding.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Letter writing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proofreading.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Park clean-ups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sign a petition.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use social media to spread awareness of a topic of your choice.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What are the advantages of microvolunteering?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the main benefits of microvolunteering is flexibility. A lack of time is one of the biggest barriers that prevent people from getting involved and volunteering. So how does microvolunteering take less time?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea behind microvolunteering is setting aside a small amount of time (half an hour, an hour, and afternoon) to carry out a task of your choice. Many organisations look for people to get involved, and they are typically one-off requests. You can help write letters, answer emails, and so much more. The tasks are straightforward and low commitment. That way, you can do something good without a large engagement.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>How to find opportunities?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social media is a large part of microvolunteering, and thankfully, there are several websites and platforms that host microvolunteering opportunities.
