Trips to Edinburgh: Getting There

The great thing about Edinburgh is that its compact city centre is super easy to get to. Whether you are coming from further up north, the midlands or all the way from London, getting to Edinburgh is straightforward by train.

Edinburgh Waverley is the capital’s main and busiest station but Haymarket also has connections to London and southern England. The other train stations in the city include Edinburgh Park and Edinburgh Gateway which connect to other Scottish cities such as Dundee, Fife and Glasgow.

Because of how easy it is to get around and how well connected the city is you can explore the rest of the country conveniently during your visit. Edinburgh to Glasgow train service runs every 20 minutes and takes only about 55 minutes, so you’ll be able to experience even more of Scotland.

Places to Visit

There are so many different things to see and do in Edinburgh, which is one of the reasons why it is such a popular destination amongst a diverse array of people. However, no matter what your interests are or who you are going away with, there are a few must-see attractions that no trip to Edinburgh is complete without.

For example, high up there on everyone’s Edinburgh bucket list should be Edinburgh Castle. As the city’s most recognisable landmark, it has been the location of many historical Scottish events and once was home to Mary, Queen of Scots. When exploring the castle you will see a range of historical artefacts including clothing, weapons and the Scottish Crown Jewels. On-site, you will also find the National War Museum and the Scottish National War Memorial which are included in the price of your admission.

Be sure to also take a trip to the Edinburgh Dungeons to find out more about the dark history of the city via the ultimate underground journey. From thrilling rides to theatrical sets and live actors, prepare to meet notorious characters such as the murderous duo Burke and Hare or infamous witch Agnes Finnie. Make the most of our Edinburgh dungeons discounts and get your tickets cheaper!

Edinburgh is also a great place to visit if you love taking a trip to the theatre to see a show. The city has several theatres that you can choose from, including Edinburgh Playhouse, Festival Theatre and King’s Theatre. The Edinburgh Playhouse is the UK’s largest all-seated theatre.
